New Yardsticks and 3-Minute Motivators

Yardsticks by Chip Wood

Chip Wood is at it again. Chip is the author of - by far the BEST book on childhood development! Obviously, I agree with the book reviewers.

I own the second edition of Yardsticks. My copy is covered in sticky notes, highlighter marks and penciled-in comments in the columns. I recommend it to parents, childcare providers, other teachers, new teachers, seasoned teachers, yoga teachers trying to break into the school-aged market, anyone who has anything to do with children. Chip is spot on! I have found the book especially helpful since I work with such a wide age range of children in my PK-1 library/media gig.

Yardsticks by Chip Wood is a FANTASTIC book! The text is very easy to follow; it gives clear descriptions, is warmly honest and sprinkled with humor.

The third and updated edition of Yardsticks: Children in the Classroom Ages 4-14 is now available from The Responsive Classroom (website). There is still time to ask Santa for your copy today.

Don’t forget to visit Chip’s blog http://www.yardsticks4-14.com/.

3-Minute Motivators by Kathy Paterson

As soon as I read the title and description I thought, Sounds like something familiar, so I decided to browse the book on-line - how can anyone resist browsing a complete book on-line!? I have much love for The Internet.

I clicked on Ch. At Your Desk. The very first activity was called “Belly Breathing.” Ah-ha! I knew there was yoga in this book.

Many of the activities in this book are very similar to if not the same as the activities we do in the Yoga Ed. program. Take a look for yourself: 3-Minute Motivators from Stenhouse Publishing.

There is a lot of breathing, stretching and imaginative play in this book - I LOVE IT! Hopefully, Santa will leave a copy under the tree for me this year. :-)
