Examining Student Work

Published by Jeff at 7:00 pm under Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

Greetings to all who attended the latest network sessions at the Center yesterday and today. I wanted to take a few minutes to review some of what Dr. Phillips introduced today. Without questions, the Center believes that this practice is essential to improvement. Our reasons for this statement are as follows:

  1. Collaborative assessment of student work provides insight not only into student mastery, but our own concepts of the material. When we can recognize patterns in student work, we also recognize patterns in the instruciton. Once recognized, those patterns can be amplified or altered.
  2. Once we can talk about student work, we can talk about instruction. Once we can talk about instruction we can give and receive the feedback necessary for growth.

Without a doubt, this is a difficult process. Please let us know what the Center can do to assist you as you move forward.
