UDL Services

Universal Design for Learning

Services Received by Participating Schools

  • UDL Institute – Two full-day sessions present the UDL philosophy and master strategies for successful implementation. In addition, team members from each school form working groups to develop Action Plans (goals and outcomes) for applying UDL tools and techniques in the classroom and guidance activities. The Institutes are organized into separate middle and secondary sessions to allow for learning with peers who teach similar students.
  • Networking Sessions – UDL training continues in three half-day sessions. The sessions also provide the opportunity to network with other teams that include guidance staff and share lessons and strategies that have been used successfully in the classroom. Participants benefit greatly from this collegial sharing of ideas as it allows for dissemination of best practices and real-time problem solving.
  • Site Visits – Center staff visits each UDL team four times during the school year to meet with team members and review progress on their Action Plans. Site visits also serve to develop building leadership on UDL implementation and to foster a broader dissemination of the methodology.
  • Periodic E-mail Support – Each team will receive several e-mail newsletters that supply information about UDL implementation. In addition, the newsletters offer access to web-based resources and instructional strategies.
  • Research Function – Each team will have access to The Center’s Senior Research Associate. Teachers can request assistance in locating and assembling lesson plans, lesson ideas, materials, helpful websites and other resources.
