Organizational Profile
The Center for Leadership in Education, founded in 1992, is a resource for educators and others committed to student achievement. The Center provides the expertise needed to transform the way in which teaching, learning, and classroom leadership is expressed in schools and communities throughout Northeast Ohio. We develop and deliver high-quality professional development to educators to improve teaching and learning in a cross-section of rural, urban and suburban districts. We achieve our mission by:
- Equipping teachers and school leaders with the information, skills, and resources they need to meet student educational needs.
- Assessing school and district improvement efforts by utilizing available research and best practices.
- Convening important conversations about teaching and learning and disseminating the resulting concepts, ideas, and strategies.
Equipping
Schools must do more than offer classroom teaching; they must ensure the academic achievement of every student. Effective school leaders guide their teachers and help their students reach higher levels of learning (Marzano 2004). Research has shown that teacher quality is strongly correlated with student performance (Sergiovani 2005). The Center’s professional development services focus on the following areas:
- Leadership development for all educators to increase student achievement
- Instructional methodologies consistent with research and proven best practices
- Appropriate (and realistic) use of instructional technologies
- The development of professional learning communities
Assessing
The Center for Leadership in Education is engaged to evaluate federal, state, and privately funded educational grants. We have developed what we believe to be the most accurate and usable program evaluation methodology. Logic models and dashboards are utilized to explicitly define expected outcomes and distinguish between grant inputs and outputs. We have become adept at deploying both quantitative and qualitative measures to determine the efficacy of programs.
Convening
The Center convenes important educational conversations while serving as initiators/facilitators of those conversations. We are currently in the process of acquiring the resources necessary to allow interested parties to participate fully regardless of the barriers of distance, time, and knowledge level of technology.
